Cutcombe Horse Show & Gymkhana Report - Sunday 16 JUNE 2013
Having enjoyed fine weather for most of the previous 25 years of Cutcombe Show it was most disappointing when the day dawned grey and wet - and looking like it would continue raining all day.  Entries were slightly down, probably not helped by the preceding week's weather forecast, then some competitors missed their classes through being late due to road closures relating to another local event (Ironman competition).  Having fewer entries meant the showing classes finished earlier enabling the hound parade put on by the Minehead Harriers to take place before lunch so the gymkhana was ready to begin on time after the Fancy Dress. The weather did improve as the day went on, becoming drier and much warmer for the afternoon.  It was nice to see happy faces winning rosettes and trophies, especially for the colourful Fancy Dress competition.  Our thanks to everyone who supported us, especially the judges and competitors who had to bear the brunt of the bad weather!  As the day picked up more cars kept arriving, bringing good entries in both the Family Dog and Terrier Shows.  This influx meant there were more people on the field to enjoy the delicious homemade refreshments put on by the parents of Cutcombe School so our thanks to them.  Thanks also to those who helped clear the field, this invaluable help is much appreciated by the hardworking team that set everything up and then clear it away again.  This may not have been one of our busiest shows, but most certainly better than last year when we had been forced to cancel the show on the day before.  A final word of thanks to Mr & Mrs Harold Stevens who kindly allow us to use their field and provide much help, especially on the day. The show is held to help local causes and we hope we will be able to do this after last year's huge disappointment.
