Welcome to the Cutcombe Horse Show, Dog Show & Gymkhana!
The weather forecast leading up to the show promised to be hot and sunny – nobody imagined
that we would be sweltering at Dunkery Hill Gate! A most glorious setting with clear views of
the moor and surrounding area - what a great place to celebrate Father’s Day! We even put on
some innovative fun races for fathers (and the children) which went down very well, providing
much entertainment for spectators!
Our thanks to Harold & Phylis Stevens for hosting this event, plus all they and their extended
family do for the show, ultimately for the benefit of the school, village and the local community.
Our thanks to the many parents of Cutcombe School who work long and hard to provide a wide
variety of delicious home made refreshments (but in the extremely hot weather the ice cream
man was clearly the winner!) Thanks also to Shirley Parfitt and her team for feeding and
watering our judges, stewards and helpers – very much appreciated. Finally, thanks to our
amazing supporters for not only working hard on the day, running their various sections but
also for helping set up the show during the week, and our huge gratitude goes to everyone
who helped clear up at the end, when we were all tiring fast after a long, hot, busy day! Show
entries were variable with some full classes, but some were less well supported; our thanks to
all competitors who came and supported us on such a hot day – including the dog show
competitors who also came along, knowing there’s plenty of shade around their ring. Thanks to
the Minehead Harriers who paraded on foot due to the intense heat, but to the delight of the
children who were able to join in the parade with them around the ring! The Fancy Dress was
a sight for sore eyes, and a good introduction to the afternoons gymkhana with all it thrills and
some spills but lots of fun - helped along by a great team of stewards and Marcus Capel’s
entertaining commentary!
